Make it to look like your giftee’s favorite pet and add a package of their favorite sweet treat to the pocket.
Add cookie mix and a cute spatula to the pocket and voila!
Do you remember the Kitty Cat Pot Holder? Well, I had a lot of requests for a Puppy Dog Pot Holder…
But, while I was designing them, I thought it would be more fun to make them to look like specific dog breeds, opposed to generic “this is a dog”.
During my research, I realized that doggos vary so much! The ears, the coat, even the muzzle.
That meant I would need multiple sets of instructions. But that’s a lot of information for one pattern… and then I had an idea!
Let’s do multiple patterns, so people can find specific dog breeds for gifting!
While there are currently only nine different dog breeds, the instructions do contain enough information to patch pieces together if you’re needing a different dog.
There are more dog breeds with specific instructions coming in the near future, but these seven were all I had time to create before the holidays.
Let’s make the Puppy Dog Pot Holder!

Notes
- Plastic can melt when coming in contact with hot dishes, so it may be better to stitch on the eyes and nostrils, especially if gifting. You could also add a warning label to the pot holder if you go forward with using plastic pieces.
- 100% cotton yarn (and batting) is recommended. Acrylics can melt if they become too hot.
- Batting is used for heat resistance. This will provide more padding and protection from hot surfaces, however, two layers of crocheted cotton is typically thick enough for short term protection (from oven to stove top). Cotton Batting can be found in any store that sells fabric.
- A yard of fabric (batting) = 36″H, 1/4 yard of fabric = 9″H, but the width is 54″ wide and batting doesn’t have a specific cutting direction.
- Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
- When stitches appear in parentheses, work those stitches in the same space.
- When asterisks appear, repeat the instructions between them.
- Tutorial photos are on the last page.
- PRO TIP: Remembering that scs are worked into dcs and dcs are worked into scs (in subsequent rows) is helpful in working through this pattern quickly without having to read every row.

Hi Danni!
I haven’t personally had issues with this, but a few other people have said so. I am in the Eastern Standard Timezone, so maybe it was the timing? Each pattern download is only available for one day only, 12am – 11:59pm in the EST.

Just downloaded your final puppy dog pattern.
Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing these wonderful patterns. I can’t wait to make them, but unfortunately it will have to wait till I start feeling better.
I love your patterns and have quite a few which are future projects when I’m better. I will post pictures.

Thank you for such a variety of patterns! You are so talented. I want to use the correct yarn and would like to know the brand that you use for the potholders. There are so many different brands of 100 per cent cotton out there. I have noticed that the texture is different as well.
Marie
Hi Marie!
I used I Love this Cotton for my puppy dog potholders!
