Although it’s Springtime here and I’ve geared these mini baskets towards Easter, they really would work for a variety of gatherings, such as birthday parties, classroom parties, or even Halloween!
In this post, we’ll chat about why these mini baskets are a must-make, how you can use them year-round (yes, even beyond Easter), and give you ideas for customizing them to match any holiday or event. Plus, we’ll share tips to help you get perfect stitches and make your baskets stand out.
What Are Mini Crochet Treat Baskets?
Mini crochet treat baskets are small, handheld containers made entirely out of yarn. They’re just the right size to hold a handful of chocolates, jellybeans, small toys, or even gift cards. Unlike bulky storage baskets, these are designed to be decorative and giftable—like the crochet version of a party favor bag.
Each basket is worked up in the round, with a sturdy base, rounded sides, and a single handle. Their size makes them a perfect stash-buster, and you can easily whip one up in under an hour.
Why You’ll Love Making These Mini Crochet Baskets
There are a million reasons to love these treat baskets, but here are a few favorites:
- Fast Finish: You can make one in about 30–45 minutes—perfect for last-minute gifts or craft fair stock.
- Scrap Yarn Friendly: Use leftover worsted weight yarn to clear out your stash.
- Great for Gifting: Fill them with candy, lip balm, stickers, small toys, or bath bombs.
- Year-Round Use: Don’t limit these to just Easter—more on that below!

How to Use the Crochet Baskets
These mini baskets are so versatile, you’ll find new ways to use them all year long. Here are some fun ideas:
1. Easter Baskets
This is the obvious one! Fill each basket with jelly beans, mini chocolate eggs, or plastic eggs with surprises inside. They’re perfect for Easter egg hunts or as table settings for brunch.
2. Classroom or Teacher Gifts
Want something handmade but not too time-consuming? These are perfect for small gifts. Fill with candy, attach a tag, and boom—adorable and thoughtful.
3. Baby Showers or Wedding Favors
Use pastel or muted tones and fill with mints or wrapped chocolates. Add a ribbon and a tag with the guest’s name for a sweet, handmade touch.
4. Craft Fair Sellers
These are great impulse buys! Offer them filled or empty and display a few in seasonal colors. They’re quick to make, easy to price, and super giftable.
5. Holiday Decor
Make a set for each season—reds and greens for Christmas, orange and black for Halloween, or red, white, and blue for the 4th of July. Fill with themed candy or small trinkets and use them as place cards or mantel decor.
6. Wedding Favors
Wouldn’t they also be adorable in White with pearls or clear gems added as Wedding favor holders on guest tables?
7. Plant Cozies
Picture them in neutral colors (like beige, tan, or forest green) to add air plants or tiny pots? Adorable!
Customization Ideas
The best part about these crochet treat baskets is how easily they can be customized. Here are a few fun ways to mix it up:
1. Color Combos
- Ombre yarns make beautiful gradients.
- Color block the base and handle for a bold look.
- Pastels for spring and Easter.
- Neon brights for birthdays or parties.
- Earth tones for a rustic look.
2. Accessorize
Add mini appliques—flowers, hearts, stars, or even tiny animals. Glue on felt eyes and a nose for bunny or bear versions!
3. Add a Liner
Use felt or fabric scraps to create a liner for the inside of the basket, especially if you’re gifting wrapped chocolates or delicate items.
Of course they can be made in any yarn colors, even variegated, plus the size is easily customizable! Since the forked cluster stitch is worked in a multiple of 1, you just need to adjust the bottom base size!
