Time Commitment and Skill Level

This is an Easy skill level crochet project. The granny square and the strip separately are beginner-friendly pieces, but the assembly may be a little tricky for some, so I have marked this as an Easy skill level.

As far as time, you can complete this project in a day, depending on your speed. The bag shown was made in about 6 hours, but I honestly didn’t time it, as I picked it up and put it down throughout the day (I did make it in one day).

About the Materials

The Granny Square Mini Bag was made with 100% Cotton Worsted Weight Yarn, specifically I Love this Cotton. Good substitutes for this yarn are Knit Picks Dishie, Paintbox Cotton Aran, and Lily Sugar ‘n Cream. Of course you can experiment with any yarns you like!

You will also need an G/6/4.00mm crochet hook, yarn needles for stitching the handle on, and a pair of scissors to clip yarn.

R2. Attach yarn to ch-2 space, (ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same space as join, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space, ch 1* 3X, sl st to top of beginning ch 2; Fasten if changing colors. (8CL)

With Color C,

R3. Attach yarn to ch-2 space, (ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same space as join, ch 1, 3 dc between CLs, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch-2 space, ch 1, 3 dc between CLs, ch 1* 3X, sl st to top of beginning ch 2; Fasten if changing colors. (12CL)

With Main Color,

R5. Ch 1, 1 sc in each st and ch-1 space, (sc, ch 1, sc) in each corner/ch-2 sp around (52 sc, 4 ch-1); Fasten

R6. Attach four squares together (2 x 2) using desired joining method (I used the BLO sl st through both layers. This created a flat seam). Repeat with other four squares.

MIDDLE STRIP

R1. Ch 82, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (81)

R2-10. Ch 1, sc across, turn; Fasten at the end of R10.

HANDLE

R1. Ch 61, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (60)
