Friday Slippers for Kids – Free Crochet Pattern

The Friday Slippers got their name, because they are so quick you can make them in an evening! 

I envision coming home after a long work week, cozying up with your yarn, and whipping up a snuggly pair of slippers!

They’re also easily customizable! You can make them striped or solid, use variegated yarn, and you can also choose to leave off the cuff!

Here’s how to make these super fast and fun slippers:

Skill Level





  • Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
  • Do not turn unless otherwise indicated.
  • Instructions are written for smallest size with larger sizes in parentheses.
  • Final stitch count for smallest size is in parentheses and larger sizes are in brackets.
  • This pattern is written for the stripes version. Skip color changes for a solid pair. 
  • I was able to get two child’s size extra large in solid from one 7oz/247yd ball of yarn (plus a small amount of accent color). 

Special Stitches

Extended Half Double Crochet (ehdc) –  YO, insert hook in stitch indicated, YO, draw up a loop, YO, draw through one loop on hook, YO, draw through all loops on hook.

Third Loop Only (TLO) – The loop on the backside of a half double crochet that runs parallel to the front & back loops. Aka Camel Stitch.



With Color A,

R1. Magic Ring, ch 2, 9(9,9,10,10) ehdc in ring, sl st to join in 1st ehdc, do not turn (9)[9,9,10,10]

R2. Ch 2, 2 ehdc arnd, sl st to join in 1st ehdc, do not turn (18)[18,18,20,20]

R3. Ch 2, ehdc in each st arnd, sl st to join in 1st ehdc, do not turn (18)[18,18,20,20]

With Color B,

R4. Repeat 3

With Color A,

R5. Repeat 3

With Color B,

R6. Repeat 3; Size Extra Small move to R11

With Color A,

R7. Repeat 3; Size Small move to R11

With Color B,

R8. Repeat 3; Size Medium move to R11

With Color A,

R9. Repeat 3; Size Large move to R11

With Color B,

R10. Repeat 3

>>Optional: Break yarn here, count 6(6,6,7,7) stitches to the right of the seam, attach yarn, ch 1, and start R11 by sc-ing in the same space as chain. This will hide the seam on the bottom of the slipper.

Continue Alternating Color,

R11. Ch 1, sc x 12(12,12,14,14), turn (12)[12,12,14,14]

R12. Ch 1, sc across, turn (12)[12,12,14,14]

R13. Repeat R12; Sizes Small & Large move to R15

R14. Repeat R12

With Color A,

R15-20(21,20,21,21). Repeat R15

Turn heel flaps inside out, hold the two flaps together, and working through both layers, sl st in each st down to close up heel, turn and sl st in each sl st back up the heel; turn heel right side out. <SEE PHOTO> 


1. Ch 1, ehdc in the end of each row and in each st arnd, sl st to join, do not turn (26)[26,26,26,28]

2. Ch 1, ehdc x 12(12,12,12,13), dec, ehdc arnd, dec over last 2 sts, sl st to join, do not turn (24)[24,24,24,26]

3. Ch 1, TLO ehdc arnd, sl st to join, do not turn (24)[24,24,24,26]

4. Ch 1, TLO sc arnd, sl st to join; Fasten. (24)[24,24,24,26]
