Good substitutes for this yarn are Knit Picks Dishie, Paintbox Cotton Aran, and Lily Sugar ‘n Cream. However, you can use whatever yarns you like; any fiber will work. You could even adjust yarn weight and hook size for larger squares.

Alternate double crochet (alt. dc) =  Single crochet, insert hook under left leg of single crochet, yarn over, draw up a loop, yarn over, draw through both loops. 

Front Post Double Crochet (FPdc) = Yarn over, insert hook from front to back and then to front again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice.

Third Loop Only (TLO) = The loop on the back of a half double crochet, below the back loop.
