Notes

• Beginning chains do not count as stitches.

• Sweater is written for smallest size, with larger sizes in parenthesis.
• The top panels are worked in short rows, so the stitch count is the height and the rows are the width. 
• The decreased side of the Front Panel is the top center.
• This sweater can be a pullover or cardigan. Both instructions are included.
• Length can easily be customized by continuing the body until it’s at the desired length.
• Yarn estimates given are based on a hip length cardigan.
• Closures for the cardigan are optional.

Special Stitches

Herringbone half double crochet (Hhdc) – YO, insert hook in stitch indicated, YO, draw up a loop and pull it straight through the 1^st loop on hook, YO, draw through both loops.

FRONT PANEL (Make 2)

R1. Ch 10(11,12,13,14,15), hdc in the back bump of the 2^nd ch and in each ch across, turn (9)[10,11,12,13,14]

R3-6(7,8,9,10,11). Repeat 2 

R7(8,9,10,11,12). Ch 1, hdc x 7(8,9,10,11,12) sk 1, hdc, turn (8)[9,10,11,12,13]

R8(9,10,11,12,13). Ch 1, sk 1, hdc x 7(8,9,10,11,12), turn (7)[8,9,10,11,12]

R1. Ch 10(11,12,13,14,15), hdc in the back bump of the 2^nd ch and in each ch across, turn (9)[10,11,12,13,14]

R3-20(22,24,26,28,30). Repeat 2; Fasten at the end of row 20(22,24,26,28,30).

For Pullover only: 

R1. Attach yarn to bottom of armhole and working in the end of the rows across (towards the back panel): 2 hdc in same space as join, hdc halfway across back panel, 2 hdc in next st, hdc to next armhole, 2 hdc in armhole seam, hdc to center of front panels, 2 hdc in next st, hdc across to 1^st hdc, sl st to join, turn (44)[48,52,56,60,64]

Suggested lengths (approximate) from shoulder to:

BOTTOM & CUFF TRIM

Ch 5, hdc in back bump of 2^nd ch and each ch across, sl st to next 2 sts, turn, hdc in each hdc, *ch 1, turn, hdc in each hdc, sl st to next 2 sts, turn, hdc in each hdc*, after last row is complete, hold the two ends of the trim together and sl st through both layers (down the inside) to join. FOR PULLOVER: NECK HOLE

R1. Attach yarn to one stitch at the bottom of the ‘V’, LOOSELY sc in each st arnd, sl st to join, turn 

R2. Ch 1, LOOSELY sc in each st back arnd neckhole, sl st to join. Fasten.

POCKETS

Sizes 2, 4, & 6

R1. Ch 8, hdc in 2^nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (7)

Finishing

• Attach pockets to front, so they line up centered under the front panels on each side, in desired location. Place so the rows are the width and the stitches are the height.
• Hide all strings.
• Block as needed.
