I first designed the puffy hearts stitch back in 2016 when I made the Puffy Heart Mittens!
The following year I designed the Puffy Hearts Bag using the same stitch!
I am so in love with this crochet stitch pattern! It’s fun to work up and creates such a beautiful finished piece!
Of course I’ve wanted to make more patterns using it since then, but it’s just never worked out that way… until now!
Oddly enough, I didn’t even set out to crochet this blanket, nor did I have this design in my mind. Actually, I was intending to work on an entirely different project.
I had sat down at my computer, pulled up stitch fiddle, and started designing a graphghan for my newborn grandson!
After I was happy with the first two squares, I went to grab my yarn to get started, but when I saw my chenille yarn sitting there, I suddenly had a new idea!
I grabbed that yarn and got to work on a whim! I don’t know why or how this idea came to me, but I’m so glad it did!
The Puffy Hearts Blanket turned out to be so warm and snuggly! Just what I needed!

Notes
- Blanket shown is 59 stitches wide x 89 rows long, which is somewhere between a lapghan and a toddler size blanket.
- Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
- Where asterisks appear, repeat the instructions between them.
- Blanket is worked from the bottom up.
- See size chart below for approximate afghan sizes.
- To make the blanket larger you will need to add 10 stitches per size to the beginning chain and 10 rows per size to the finished length. See the “Customize Your Size” Chart Below.
- Use stitch markers to mark the stitches that need to be worked when making the puffy hearts. I marked where my single crochets would be placed.
- Yarn thickness varies by brand/line. Although you may choose a Super Bulky Weight Yarn in the #6 category, your gauge may be off slightly from mine.

Special Stitches
Long Puff Stitch (LPuff) = YO,*insert hook into stitch indicated, YO, draw up a loop* 4X, YO, draw through all loops on hook. Lpuffs are worked diagonally into a single crochet two rows below current working row. See heart chart below for a better understanding.

- Hide all additional strings.
- Optional: Use clear fabric glue on the knots of the hearts to prevent them from falling apart or untying. After adding glue, hide the tails “inside” backside of hearts.

I just read the instructions on how to crochet the Puffy Hearts Blanket and it said that the sizing chart is at the bottom of the page…but there is no chart.
there. I want to make a larger size blanket, but I don’t know how many stitches I start with, whether there is a chain I start in and what size hook I need, and what kind of yarn. This has to be included in the instructions.
Can you supply this info in an email to me?
Thank you.
Hi Catherine!
The charts have been added! Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

Do you carry the pink yarn ?or do you only see the heart on the front not the back?I’m not understanding this.
Hi Kathleen!
I do not carry the pink yarn, I cut the tails for each heart. I then tie the ends, dab fabric fusion glue on the knots, and tuck them under the puff stitching on the backside.

Please explain how to make the hearts – do you complete the row in white sc – then go back and make the hearts in pink? Thank you!
Hi Andrea!
You will change colors (to pink or your chosen heart color) to make the hearts only, the rest is worked in white (or chosen main color).
