Yarn Review: Big Twist Twinkle

Sharing is caring!

I recently worked with Big Twist Twinkle yarn and since it’s new, I thought I should write up a yarn review!

If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you probably know that I adore glitter yarns! I’ve probably said it a thousand times (and will probably say it a thousand more), but it’s true! I am really drawn to them!

You probably also know that I frequently shop at Joann Fabric and Craft, since it is the craft store closest to me. So, when I was looking for yarn for my newest project, I already knew I would probably use their Big Twist line, since it’s a 100% acrylic worsted weight, with a great price point and beautiful color line.

Well, I took and trip there, bought up a bunch of skeins of the Big Twist Value and got to work. I made three squares and I just didn’t feel the spark. I knew I needed a different yarn. After all, I had originally wanted a glitter yarn, but couldn’t find a color I liked.

So, I went back to the Joann app and started searching again and guess what? They had a new line: Big Twist Twinkle! And it has metallic strips! What?! It was definitely meant to be! I sent my husband out to buy the six skeins the app said they had! LOL! Actually, they had just gotten it and hadn’t even put it out on the shelves yet! Woohoo!

As soon as I started reworking my squares, I knew I had the right yarn. It’s beautiful and I am in love with the finished look! It was easy to work with, it didn’t split apart, and my hook never ended up tangled with the metallic strip!

They only have 9 colors right now, and none of them are purple (waaah!), but the colors they do have are all pretty: Black, White, Grey (medium grey), Slate (light grey), Teal (more like a medium blue), Sapphire (royal blue), Mulberry (dark red), Red (bright red), and Green (bright spring green).

**Update**: They now have 20 colors available, one of which is Lilac!

I hope this yarn becomes popular and they add a few more colors, because I would love orange for some Halloween projects and like I mentioned above, purple!

This yarn itself feels a little softer and more sheen than traditional acrylics, but I do think it is a bit thinner than comparable brands.

Also, the metallic strip is a tight twist, so there is a lot of it. I personally don’t mind it, but it does seem to dominate the project, so I found that notable.

This yarn is machine washable and it can be ironed on low. It can be dry cleaned, but it can’t be tumble dried, and it needs to lay flat to dry.

One more notable thing would be that it does have a dye lot, so you would want to make sure you buy enough skeins of the same dye lot to complete your project or it may not end up with uniform coloring.

And the best part of all is that I was able to make 12 – 15″ x 15″ squares with just those six skeins (and one skein of white). The skeins are 6oz/380yds [170g/347m] each!

Actually, I got two squares from each skein and then had enough left to wind into a cute little cake. I didn’t think to weigh them, but I believe there is about one ounce of each left! It really went a long way.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I’ll answer it if I can!

Thanks for reading my yarn review for Big Twist Twinkle! I hope you’ll pick some up and share your projects with me! Also, keep an eye on this blog, because the afghan squares will be posted soon!
