• NOTE: If using sealer, read the bottle instructions for care. The Mod Podge I used is washer safe and should keep them protected from most messes!

About the Materials

The Shark Crochet Shoe Charms were made with 100% Mercerized Cotton DK Weight Yarn, specifically Patons Grace. Good substitutes for this yarn are Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton DK and Tahki Yarns Cotton Classic. Acrylic yarns and other fibers can also be used for this project, they will just have a different finished look, because they have a different structure.

You will also need the shoe charm backs, also knows as shoe charm buttons, which comes in many colors, including clear. In addition you will need E6000 glue to the backs to the shark appliques. I tried using many glues and the only glue I found that held the backing was E6000.

I do recommend sealing the charms to make them weather resistant and beach ready! I used Mod Podge Multi which has been fabulous! This will make care easier too!

Finishing

• GREAT WHITE SHARK
  • With Black: Stitch eyes over R4, leaving 2-3 sts between them.
  • With Black: Stitch mouth over R2, across center stitches.
  • With Black: Stitch gills onto side edge of R1 & 2. Repeat on other side.
• HAMMERHEAD  SHARK
  • With Black: Stitch eyes over R5, leaving 7-8 sts between them.
  • With Black: Stitch mouth over R2, across center stitches.
  • With Black: Stitch gills onto side edge of R1 & 2. Repeat on other side.
• WHALE  SHARK
  • With Black: Stitch eyes over corners of R6.
  • With Black: Stitch gills onto side edge of R1 & 2. Repeat on other side.
  • With White: Stitch spots onto body between R1&2, 2&3, and 5&6.
• Dab sealer onto front and back of charm, allowing it to soak into the fibers. Set aside to dry. This step can be repeated as desired to give it extra protection, but I only used one coat.
• Using E6000, glue charm back to the center-back of shark bodies. Set aside to dry.
• NOTE: Sealer and E6000 both require time to fully cure, so while they may be dry and sturdy, don’t get them wet until fully cured.
