Notes

  • Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
  • Where asterisks appear, repeat the instructions between them.
  • Sizes are separated out.
  • Yarn thickness varies by brand/line. Although you may choose a Worsted Weight Yarn in the Medium-4 category, your gauge may be off slightly from mine.
  • Tutorial photos and charts are on the last page.

Color Changes

Before we start the blanket, here is a quick color change tutorial to make it easier to follow along with the instructions.

When changing colors, finish off the last stitch by pulling the new color through the last two loops on hook. We are using single crochets for this, so you would work it this way (for example): with Color B, insert hook in stitch indicated, yarn over, draw up a loop, drop Color B, pull Color A through those two loops created by Color B.

Now you will create your single crochets with Color A by stitching over the Color B strand. Lay Color B strand across the top of the other stitches, and then work your Color A single crochet stitches as normal. Whatever color you are not using at the time will be crocheted over. This helps create a denser warmer fabric as well as saving time on weaving in ends later.

Finishing

  • Thread a needle with fur yarn, fold fur rows over the right side / front side of the plaid portion: sew across to attach fur to plaid.
  • Turn ear warmer right side out.
  • Match up the rows on the short ends, with right sides / front sides together, sew across, working through all four layers.
  • Flip ear warmer, so the plaid is facing out, and wrap fur yarn 15-20 times (or until the thickness is as desired) over the seam, cinching the center.
  • Hide all strings.

  1. I don’t understand the rows with the fur. The repeat does not make sense to me. First there are no more sc and it does not make sense to keep skipping every other stitch. Should I only stitch in the DC or in the chain space?

  2. I wonder if you know what colors to use if we wanted to do the blue /green plaid. I cant seem to get them right lol Amazing pattern. Thank yo!!

    1. Hi Darcy!
Do you want it to be blue and green or a blue-green, like turquoise?

If you’re talking blue-green, you could use a dark teal and then regular bright turquoise, plus black.

For green plaid you would want dark green (like hunter green) + regular green (like kelly green)

For Blue plaid you would want dark blue (like navy) + regular blue (like royal).
