How to Crochet Shark Bookmarks – Free Pattern
Mark the page in your favorite book with these adorable crochet shark bookmarks! They make fin-tastic reading companions for children and adults!

Traditional bookmarks can be fun with their ribbons and tassels, but these Shark Bookmarks are both adorable and unique!
So dive into a great story without fear of losing your place, just pop the sharks tail into your book when you’re ready for a break, and his cute little stuffed head will be there to greet you when you return.
And as cute as these sharks are, there is plenty of room for customizing them! Add pink cheeks, eye lashes, jagged teeth… whatever details your heart desires!
Another great thing about these bookmarks is how quick they are to work up, making them great gifts for shark lovers! You could also make them for a classroom or sell them at craft fairs!
If you use the Great White Shark Bookmark pattern, but change the skin color, you could make a Tiger Shark, Lemon Shark, Mako Shark and more!
Plus, if you adjust the caudal fins when cutting, you could make a Thresher Shark, Nurse Shark, Blacktip Shark…etc.

100% Cotton Worsted Weight Yarn(#4)
- Skin Color [.5oz/26yds]
- Gill Color [Scraps]
E/4/3.50mm
Mini Google Eyes
Felt Sheets or Cardstock
Fiberfill Stuffing
Pen (For Tracing Template)
Scissors
Yarn Needle
Optional:
3D Fabric Paint (Whale Shark Spots)
Lamination Sheets (if using paper)

- Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
- Where asterisks appear, repeat the instructions between them.
- Where parenthesis appear, work those stitches all into the same space.

- I used I Love This Cotton in Dove, Dark Denim, and Black.
Instructions
GREAT WHITE (or Similar Shaped Shark)
With Gray (or preferred skin color),
R1. Make a magic ring, ch 1, 3 sc in ring (3)
R2. 2 sc arnd (6); Turn right side out
R3. *2 sc, sc x 2* 2X (8)
R4. *2 sc, sc x 3* 2X (10)
R5. *2 sc, sc x 4* 2X (12)
R6-13. sc arnd (12)
R14. Stuff, flatten, and sc through both layers to close; Fasten. (6)
HAMMERHEAD
With Gray,
R1. Ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn to work down opposite side of the ch, sc across (24)
R2-3. sc arnd (24)
R4. Flatten and sc x 3 through both layers, sc x 6 through top layer only, then flatten again and sc x 3 working through both layers. Turn project over to face back side, sl st x 3 working in the third loop only on the back side of the scs to get back to the open stitches, sc x 6, do not join
R5-13. sc arnd (12)
R14. sc over to the top center, stuff, flatten, and sc through both layers to close; Fasten. (6)
WHALE SHARK
With White,
R1.Ch 4, 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc x 2, 2 sc, turn to work down opposite side of the ch, 2 sc, sc x 2, 2 sc (12)
R2-9. sc arnd (12)
R10. If not already lined up with 1st ch of beginning ch, sc over to that spot before continuing: *dec, sc x 2, 2 sc, sc x 2* 2X
R11-13. sc arnd (12)
R14. sc over to the top center, stuff, flatten, and sc through both layers to close; Fasten. (6) Make sure the head (R1-6 approximately) stay a “flat” shape.
PECTORAL FINS
With Skin Color,
R1. Ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn (3)
R2. Ch 1, dec, sc, turn (2)
R3. Ch 1, dec; Fasten. (1)
Finishing
- Cut tail piece from felt or paper using the tail template
- Attach tail to R14 of body
- Attach Eyes to sides of head:
- Great White: Attach eyes to side center of R5
- Hammerhead: Attach eyes to edge of R2
- Whale Shark: Attach eyes to side center of R3
- Attach pectoral fins to sides of body, over R9-11 approximately.
- Stitch on gills (and other details) as desired. I used White 3D fabric paint to paint the spots onto the Whale Shark, but they would also be stitched on.
- Hide all strings.
