Few projects are as enjoyable and rewarding as crochet coasters. They are a great way to practice your crochet skills, whether you’re just starting out learning the craft or you’ve found a beautiful new stitch you want to master!
Why You’ll Love the Feather Stitch Crochet Coasters
Coasters are great mini projects that not only add a touch of charm to your decor, but they also serve as practical accessories for everyday use. This makes the Feather Stitch Crochet Coasters a great crochet project no matter what level of crojo you have!
The Feather Stitch has many potential uses, because of the gorgeous finished look and the thickness of the piece, but I thought none were better than coasters (or afghans if you’re following the New Year’s New Stitch CAL)!
What is the Feather Stitch?
The Feather Stitch is one of those gorgeous textures that looks way more complicated than it really is. It creates a beautiful, layered look that almost resembles a braid or feathered fabric, making it a standout choice for projects where the stitch is the star. Because it has a bit of thickness and a lot of visual interest, the Feather Stitch is perfect for things like afghans, bags, and of course—coasters! It adds a plush, absorbent quality that’s just what you want to protect your furniture in style.
What else do I need to know about the Feather Stitch?
- It is a dense “yarn eater” stitch, so it will use up a lot of yarn overall.
- It is also reversible, so there isn’t a “right side”.
What are the stitch multiples?
The crochet feather stitch is worked over an odd number of stitches, so the beginning chain needs to be an even number.

About the Skill Level
These Feather Stitch Crochet Coasters are considered an intermediate project, as this stitch requires some experience with crochet basics, but you can check out the full Feather Stitch tutorial and master this stitch in no time!
About the Yarn
Although this pattern calls for DK weight yarn and a G hook, you can easily change the hook sizes and yarn weights just by adjusting your beginning chain amount, because crochet coasters have no boundaries: the size and finished look is up to you!
You can use matte neutrals or bright colors with a sheen. You can use variegated yarns, tweeds, or even make them striped. You can use acrylic yarn, cotton yarn, or anything in between. I used King Cole Simply Denim DK, which is a cotton-acrylic blend.
