What materials do I need?
To make the Crochet Stadium Bag you will need 100% Cotton worsted weight yarn and an H/8/5.00mm crochet hook. Cotton yarn is sturdier than other yarns, as it has little to no stretch. Notes
- Beginning chains do not count as stitches.
- The number of holes in all pieces of vinyl need to match (square to square or rectangle to rectangle)and the holes need to line up relatively closely.
- There is no stitch count listed because the stitch count will depend on how many holes you add to your vinyl.
- You can easily adjust the size of the finished bag to make it taller, shorter, wider, or thinner. Just cut the vinyl pieces to your desired measurements before adding the holes. The pattern will still work up the same way, no matter what measurements are used.
- Bags shown measure Red = 8” x 4” x 8”, Blue = 12” x 6” x 12”, and

Vinyl Prep
- Cut 2 – square pieces of vinyl (standard is 12” x 12”) — punch holes all the way around the edge, leaving approximately 1/4″ between them. Make sure there is a hole in every corner. TIP: Punch holes in one piece, then use it as a template for cutting holes in the 2nd piece. This will ensure you’ve cut the holes the same in both pieces.
- Cut 3 – rectangle pieces of vinyl so that the long sides match the measurement of the square piece and the shorter sides are half the measurement. (for a 12” x 12” bag, make the rectangles 6” x 12”) — punch holes all the way around the edge, leaving approximately 1/4″ between them. Make sure there is a hole in every corner. TIP: Hold each rectangle to the square pieces and match the holes to the sides where the rectangle will go. For instance, the rectangle that will be the right side panel: hold the right side of the rectangle to the back square panel and the left side of the rectangle to the front square panel.
Instructions
S1. For each individual panel: Insert hook through any hole on the vinyl: 2 sc in each hole on the sides and 3 sc in each of the corner holes around, sl st to join in 1st sc; Fasten.
S2. Start by attaching the bottom panel to all sides:: Hold panels together, matching up the stitches, and work through both layers/panels: sc in each st arnd, joining all 5 panels together to create the bottom of the bag; Fasten.
S3. Fold the panels up, so you’re matching the side panels to the front/back panels, and sc down each of the seams; Fasten.
S4. Attach yarn to any stitch at the top and sc arnd the entire top, sl st to join in top of 1st sc; Fasten.
HANDLES
Small -16”
R1. Ch 76, sl st in in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (75)
R2-6. Ch 1, FLO sc in each st across, turn; Fasten at the end of R5.
Medium – 21”
R1. Ch 101, sl st in in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (100)
R2-6. Ch 1, FLO sc in each st across, turn; Fasten at the end of R5.
Large – 26.5”
R1. Ch 126, sl st in in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn (125)
R2-6. Ch 1, FLO sc in each st across, turn; Fasten at the end of R5.
Finishing
- Sew handles to the center of the front/back panel: Attach approx 1.5 – 2” of the ends of the handle to the bag, leaving a space between the handles that measures approx. ½ of the front/back panel width. For example, if the front panel is 12”W then you’ll want 6” space between the handles.
- Hide All Strings.
