These crochet mittens are worked in one continuous piece with no seams, this makes for a quick and easy project that you can make a lot of in a short amount of time! This makes them ideal for donating to charities, shelters, schools, or the unhoused. They’d be great to leave around public parks!
This pattern was designed as part of the Share the Warmth CAL hosted by myself and A Crocheted Simplicity!
About the Stitches
Featuring the herringbone half double crochet stitch, these mittens offer a unique, textured look, similar to the knit purl stitch, that sets them apart from traditional patterns. The herringbone stitch adds extra durability, making them both stylish and practical for everyday wear. And the cuffs are a simple back loop only single crochet, giving them a beautiful ribbed accent.
Can they be donated?
The Sugarloaf Mittens are perfect for donating to schools and warming centers, because they work up really quick, so you can make a whole lot of them to donate! Of course, they’re not just great for donating, they’re great for gifting or for treating yourself to something cozy. Whether you’re an advanced crocheter or just starting out, these mittens are fun to work up!
How many sizes are included?
Available in four sizes, from toddler to large adult, these crochet mittens are the perfect accessory for the whole family.
Benefits of a new sew mitten pattern
Comfortable Fit: Seamless mittens eliminate the bulky feeling that seams can create, providing a smoother and more comfortable fit.
Durability: Mittens worked in one piece are structurally stronger. Since they don’t have weak points where seams are stitched, they are less likely to come apart, improving their longevity and wear.
Faster to Complete: Since you don’t have to spend time sewing parts together, the project is quicker to finish. It’s especially appealing for crocheters who want to make these as gift or for donation.
Cleaner Look: A seamless design creates a more polished, professional finish. Without visible joins, the mittens appear neater, which can elevate their overall aesthetic.
Better Stretch and Flexibility: Without seams, the fabric retains its full stretch potential, allowing for more flexibility and movement. This is especially important in mittens, which need to be snug, but still comfortable.
No Need for Extra Supplies: Not having to sew any of the pieces together means you don’t have to spend time hunting down a needle, which are always missing in my house. I swear they hide somewhere with my measuring tapes!
Possible for Confident Beginners: For those newer to crochet, seamless mittens eliminate the sometimes tricky step of sewing and shaping, making the project more beginner-friendly.
Consistent Stitch Pattern: Working the entire mitten in one piece helps maintain a uniform stitch pattern, giving the design a more cohesive look. This is particularly beneficial when using textured stitches like the herringbone half double crochet.
