Valentine Crochet Pattern from Blackstone Designs

Materials

Worsted Weight Yarn (#4)

H/8/5.00mm Hook

Valentine Themed Buttons or other embellishments

Yarn Needle

2.5”w x 3.5”h pieces of paper

Crayons

Gauge

14 sc x 18 rows = 4”

Gauge is not critical for this project

Approximately 6.25” x 4.25”

COVER

R1. Ch 23, sc in back bump of 2nd ch and in each ch across, turn (22)

R2. Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (22)

R3-18. Repeat row 2; do not turn at the end of row 18

R19.(RS) Ch 1, sl st in the end of each row and in each st around the entire cover; sl st to join in 1st sl st; Fasten. (76)

PAPER POCKET

R1. Ch 11, sc in the back bump of 2nd ch and in each ch across, turn (10)

R2. Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (10)

R3-10. Repeat row 2; do not turn at the end of row 10

R11.(RS) Ch 1, sl st in the end of each row and in each st around the entire cover; sl st to join in 1st sl st; Fasten. (36)

CRAYON POCKET

R1. Ch 7, sc in the back bump of 2nd ch and in each ch across, turn (6)

R2. Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (6)

R3-8. Repeat row 2; do not turn at the end of row 8

R9.(RS) Ch 1, sl st in the end of each row and in each st around the entire cover; sl st to join in 1st sl st; Fasten. (24)

CLOSURE LOOP

Attach yarn to outside of back cover (paper side) in sl st at the end of row 9: Ch 11, sl st in the sl st at the end of row 10; Fasten.

Finishing

Fold in half to resemble a book cover.

Attach crayon pocket to the center of the inside-left, 2 rows up from the bottom.

Attach paper pocket to the center of the inside-right, 2 rows up from the bottom.

Sew button to front-outside of cover, 3 sts in from the edge, between rows 9 and 10.

Cut paper to measure 2.5” wide x 3.5” high. I used copy paper.

Insert paper and crayons in their pockets and button closed.

Hide all strings.
